Good Turnout for Salter Grove Cleanup on April 29
Despite morning rain on Sunday, April 29, over 30 volunteers showed up to make Salter Grove even more beautiful by removing trash in all sectors of the park.
This enjoyable event led to over 400 pounds of trash being collected. The trash was picked up the following Monday by the City of Warwick. Good job everyone!
Contractors Briefed on Causeway Repair
UPDATE 3/3/18: Bids of three contractors were accepted on April 2nd.

Warwick engineers Eric Earls (yellow jacket) and Eric Hindinger (motioning) brief contractors about causeway repair at Salter Grove.
Warwick Engineers Eric Earls and Eric Hindinger briefed representatives from 14 companies interested in bidding on repair of the causeway at Salter Grove. The obligatory briefing on March 5th started in the Council Chambers at City Hall and finished on site at George B. Salter Memorial Grove.
Earls advised contractors to focus on the low-lying area near the plastic culverts and the deep cut previously crossed by a foot bridge, which he described as “treacherous” at high tide. The focus should be on providing safe access to the breakwater, with any other improvements being “gravy.”
RFP for Causeway Repair Posted!
On February 14th, the City of Warwick posted a Request for Proposals (RFP) to repair the causeway connecting Salter Grove to the breakwater.
The proposal’s scope of work includes the design, permitting, and construction of improvements to the causeway to improve access to the breakwater. At a minimum, the areas currently containing culverts and a displaced footbridge superstructure, which are flooded at high tide, are to be repaired.
Phase I Fundraising Goal Exceeded!

We raised $2,281 from the sale of raffle tickets and netted $4,572.50 from individual donations, We also received a $1,000 legislative grant via Sen. Michael McCaffrey. Some of these funds passed though our fiscal sponsor, the New England Grassroots Environment Fund.
