The New England Grassroots Environmental Fund has recognized the work of Friends of Salter Grove and awarded our group a second Seed Grant for $1,000.
The grant will help FoSG continue its outreach and educational efforts while also providing funding for publicity when FoSG begins raising funds for playground equipment in the fall.
The New England Grassroots Environment Fund energizes and nurtures long-term civic engagement in local initiatives that create and maintain healthy, just, safe and sustainable communities using stories, tools and dollars to fuel local activism and social change. Since 1996, the Grassroots Fund’s core grant making program continues to fund nearly 150 grants annually, giving more than $4 million in 20 years to more than 2,000 community groups and initiatives covering more than 60 percent of New England’s cities and towns. Come celebrate Salter Grove and meet neighbors who appreciate our beautiful park as much as you do!
Susan Unger and Megan Kane brought 24 fourth graders from St. Peter School to Salter Grove on Friday, May 12 to observe and draw wild animals and plants in their respective habitats. Small groups of students fanned out into the different habitats of the park supervised by their teachers, and FoSG members Peter Becker, Michael Jarvis, and Marina Wong.
