Shoreline Cleanup April 23-7

Save the Bay will conduct the first cleanup of Salter Grove in 2018 on Sunday, April 29th, 1-3 pm. Click here for details and to sign up as a volunteer.

The cleanup activity will help set a cleanliness and beauty standard for the summer months. This will be a family-friendly event led by experienced people.

Cleanup Days draw many people who are both interested in improving our natural environment and in having a nice social afternoon. Volunteers will be provided gloves, pickers/grabbers, and trash bags. You will have a brief orientation and then will work with a group. The weather is slowly becoming spring-like, so the day should be enjoyable. We hope you can join us!

Another Successful Cleanup!

SG_SignThirty-four volunteers collected about 300 pounds of trash at the August 10 shoreline cleanup sponsored by Save the Bay. Most of the participants were from Warwick or Providence but one group came from as far away as Gloucester, MA! The gorgeous weather and beautiful views enticed many participants to concentrate their efforts on the breakwater and causeway. They did a great job in removing masses of fishline, glass bottles, aluminum cans, and plastic from hiding places among the boulders. For those of you who missed this cleanup—not to worry. There are plenty more future cleanups!

Watch for the signup for the International Coastal Cleanup of Salter Grove on Saturday, September 16th, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. here.

A photo from the April 13, 2017 FOSG neighborhood meeting.

First of all, thank you to everyone who attended our first neighborhood meeting on Thursday, April 13 at the Pilgrim Senior Center in Warwick. We were honored to present our goals to everyone and hear from neighbors about their concerns for the present and future state of Salter Grove. We are still busy getting all of the views expressed in order; in the meantime, we ask you to please fill out a brief survey if you have not done so already. Your important ideas will be taken into consideration as we plan the next steps for Salter Grove!

The survey will close on Friday, April 21. CLICK HERE FOR SURVEY

Deb Pratt from Save the Bay with 500 lbs of trash removed from park grounds on Sunday, March 26.

Sunday brought another successful and productive cleanup at Salter Grove! Although it drizzled a little it didn’t stop all the awesome volunteers who showed up from collecting over 500 pounds (506, to be exact) of trash from park grounds, including the parking area, causeway, breakwater, and along Narragansett Parkway. Thanks to Deb from Save The Bay for hosting the event!
