Save the Date for a Potluck Picnic and Family Fun Event at Salter Grove on Saturday, July 15

140412-F-YG094-118Come celebrate Salter Grove and meet neighbors who appreciate our beautiful park as much as you do!

Bring your favorite dish to a Potluck BBQ Picnic at Salter Grove on Saturday, July 15th, from 4 p.m. until sunset (rain date August 5th). Grills will be available for searing your meats and vegetables. Posting your dish at goo.gl/YGJAsr will guarantee the ultimate bayside smorgasbord!

Activities will include face painting by Marc Kohler (also a Gaspee historian), frisbee, horseshoes, bocce, and a lucky draw. Feel free to bring bubble makers, beach balls, and organize games that you enjoy for outdoor fun with new friends.

Don’t forget sunscreen, bug spray, and plenty of liquid refreshments for a comfortable stay.

The Warwick Parks and Recreation Department will provide extra picnic tables for the occasion, but bring your lawn chairs and blankets so you can enjoy the park from any vantage point.

Come Clean Our Town’s Shores with Save The Bay this Summer!

Help clean up Warwick’s shorelines this summer! Each week Save The Bay and the Town of Warwick will be at a different shoreline cleaning up and having fun in the sun. The Cleanups will happen every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 starting June 8th and going through August 24th. Volunteers are going to be working on Rocky Point, Salter Grove (that’s us!), Conimicut Point, and Oakland Beach, on a rotating schedule.

The first cleanup date at Salter Grove will be June 15. We need volunteers so please sign up on the Save the Bay site here!

St. Peter Students Explore Salter Grove on a Field Trip

IMG_0305Susan Unger and Megan Kane brought 24 fourth graders from St. Peter School to Salter Grove on Friday, May 12 to observe and draw wild animals and plants in their respective habitats. Small groups of students fanned out into the different habitats of the park supervised by their teachers, and FoSG members Peter Becker, Michael Jarvis, and Marina Wong.

“One student said that it was the best field trip he ever had because he was free to explore anywhere he wanted.”

Survey Says: Salter Grove Visitors Want Safe Breakwater Access and Improved Play Areas

First of all, thank you to everyone who attended our first neighborhood meeting on Thursday, April 13 at the Pilgrim Senior Center in Warwick. We were honored to present our goals to everyone and hear from neighbors about their concerns for the present and future state of Salter Grove. We are still busy getting all of the views expressed in order; in the meantime, we ask you to please fill out a brief survey if you have not done so already. Your important ideas will be taken into consideration as we plan the next steps for Salter Grove!

Salter Memorial Grove at a meeting on Thursday, April 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at the Pilgrim Senior Center. Don’t miss this opportunity to give your feedback on the following:

• Playground use and equipment upgrade
• Safe access to the breakwater
• Parking lot placement plans
• Any other concerns or ideas you have about the park
